The official Sketchfab metadata and the downloaded GLB's embedded `asset.extras`
both identify DJMaesen as the author and CC BY 4.0 as the license. Verified
September 25, 2026. The source model is described by the artist as a low-poly
alien creature; it includes an authored skeleton, skin weights, three textures,
and the `idletest` animation.

## Project adaptation

`stalker.glb` is an adaptation of this authored alien model for the game's stalker
NPC. The integration preserves its modeled anatomy and texture artwork. Changes
for integration include converting the source specular/glossiness material to
glTF PBR with its original color, normal and specular texture maps, normalizing
scale and orientation, retargeting
the skeleton for the game's stalker animations, and storing the three textures
as lossless WebP (every pixel unchanged). The opening pose is restored
to the symmetric bind pose before fitting. These adaptations are project
changes and do not imply endorsement by DJMaesen.

Keep this attribution with redistributed copies of the model and its textures.
CC BY 4.0 permits redistribution and adaptation, including commercial use, with
appropriate attribution, a license link, and an indication of changes. See the
linked license for its complete terms.

## Rebuilding

The original downloadable GLB is also preserved in the public
[Objaverse distribution](https://huggingface.co/datasets/allenai/objaverse/resolve/main/glbs/000-019/4028043549f64b40a14b6b12392663a7.glb).
Save it as `node_modules/.cache/alien.glb`, then run
`node scripts/build-stalker-model.js`. The script writes both the game GLB
and its joint configuration, with PNG textures; then run
`node scripts/compress-model-textures.js public/models/stalker.glb` to store
them as lossless WebP. No external texture requests are needed at runtime.
