# Signal flare sound sources

What a burning flare sounds like: the striker's crack and the head catching,
the steady roar and crackle of the composition, and a flare quenched in water.
[`src/weapons/flare-audio.ts`](../../../src/weapons/flare-audio.ts) overlaps
the burn takes by their faded ends into one continuous sound for as long as a
flare burns. Every recording here is trimmed from a Freesound upload released
under [CC0 1.0](https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/) (public
domain). [`scripts/build-flare-audio.py`](../../../scripts/build-flare-audio.py)
holds the exact cuts: it trims each segment, mixes it to mono, levels the burn
takes to one loudness, fades the ends with equal-power curves and encodes Ogg
Vorbis.
