# Alien creature recordings

The twenty-five Ogg samples are edited from **80 CC0 creature SFX**, performed and
created by **rubberduck**, released under **CC0 1.0**:

`scripts/build-creature-audio.py` records the exact input/output mapping and
rebuilds the samples: mono downmix, DC removal, silence trimming, peak
normalization with headroom, and short edge fades. Runtime playback adds
species-specific pitch and filtering, individual variation, distance falloff,
direction and a quiet forest reflection. No external services are used at runtime.

`arachnid-roar.wav` combines the bundled `hunter-charge-1`, `hunter-growl-1`,
`stalker-death`, and `hunter-death` performances from the same CC0 source.
`scripts/build-arachnid-audio.py` records its pitch, filtering, short reflections,
layer levels, compression, and fades. The 3.2-second mono performance includes a
0.6-second silent intake, a deep chest rumble beneath a harsh scream, and a quiet
ending after 3 seconds. Its pitch is baked so playback stays aligned with the
arachnid's mouth when previewing at different speeds or resuming mid-roar.

The forest reflection uses `../weapons/forest-tail.ogg`; its CC0 source is in
`../weapons/SOURCES.md`. Footfalls layer the wildlife's `../animals/rabbit-thump-1..2`
and `../animals/rustle-1..3`, pitched down at runtime; their CC0 sources are in
`../animals/SOURCES.md`.
